Electric shower not working 100%

Our electric shower is not working as well as it should be- it is not as hot anymore, and occassionally it will suddenly stream boiling hot water for a few minutes. We think maybe it needs de-scaling? Would also like quotes on how much it may be to buy and fit a new one?
