Hi, I was taking off a radiator and like the pro I am I damaged the piping and now have a leak.
A radiator has 2 ends, the thermostat end and the valve end. The leak is at the valve end. The valve is turned fully off and it still leaks. I think I damaged the seal between the valve and the pipe. It is possible that I damaged the valve piece itself.
I am talking about this piece: http://bit.ly/o7SBla
Currently I have a slow leak which I have patched up fairly successfully with a rubber glove and some tape. When uncovered it drips every 5 seconds or so. It certainly isn't gushing.
So I believe that to fix it you need to do the following.
1) Identify if the joint between valve and pipe is damaged or if the valve itself is damaged.
1b) *I assume* drain heating system
1c) Fix Leak
1d) Put radiator back on wall
1e) Refill heating system
Secondly I have tap which flows really slowly. Someone told me something inside the tap is twisted and I need a new tap. I will buy the tap. You just need to take off the old one and put on the new one.
I assume that if the heating system needs to be drained the water system needs to be turned off so this should be a good time to do it.
Misc Information:
House was build in the 70's and the heating went in sometime after that.
Boiler isn't a combi boiler. We have a tank in the roof.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
Regarding when I need it done. I am painting the room over the next 2 weeks. I will then be buying a carpet. It needs to be done between 21st - 30th September. The carpet is going in 1st October and I would like this sorted before then.
