hall lights do not work..

I have two electrical lights in my hall and two switches at either end of the hall. Pressing either of these switches activates both lights. Currently if I press either switch either nothing happens or both lights flicker simulatiously. I want to be able to turn these lights on ready for the dark winter evenings. Thanks!
