I would like a base of a sofa shortened in width

I have a sofa with a wooden/ply base that is 262 cm long. I would like to shorten it. It is a simple case of cutting out the unnecessary piece and working out the best way to connect the two pieces with metal joinery. I am in central Rugby, 34 King Edward Road, CV21 2TA.
