Plastering chimney breast and around and inside hole left by fire

I had a gas fire removed from my chimney breast. I am not going to replace the fire and want to make a feature out of the hole, the edge are plastered but are uneven and not straight. Inside is just painted brick and needs plastering. Previous plastering on the chimney has been of poor quality and is very uneven and needs reskimming to give a nice flat finish.
