Remove gas fire and back boiler and make good

We have an old gas fire attached to a back boiler which is no longer in use. It's a Baxi Bermuda. We want to remove the fire as it's ugly, and the back boiler at the same time to give us the option to fit another fire at some point in the future. It would need making good, but would not want the fire replacing yet, just leave an empty "hole" for now. See the attached photos for how it looks now, and another photo we found which shows roughly how we would like it to look (although happier for smaller "hole" and for it to go down to floor level)
